The project aims to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers by generating income from the production, processing and use of sunflowers in Rwanda. The project is a direct response to the low income of smallholder farmers in Rwanda who mostly practice subsistence farming as well as the importation of raw materials needed for local food processing plants, especially edible oil refineries, in response to the population's demand for edible oil.
