Policy choices

We facilitate inclusive provisions and employment terms and conditions for everyone at Achmea.

Inclusive terms and conditions of employment

Our collective labour agreement stipulates that all employees will be remunerated equally, regardless of their gender, sexuality or religious background. If an employee feels that this is not the case, they can bring this to Achmea’s attention and an investigation will be carried out. If a difference is found, then this will be corrected. Achmea has previously participated in a study by the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights (College Rechten van de Mens) investigating the wage gap. The study revealed that there is no such gap at Achmea. We also run periodic investigations ourselves to check whether there are any pay gaps.

Another example is Diversity days. These days are paid leave that can be taken for an activity or holiday associated with your religion or belief. We provide multicultural quiet spaces for similar reasons. We also encourage and facilitate a variety of employee networks such as Kleurrijk Achmea (Colourful Achmea), Achmea Pride! and Onbeperkt Achmea (Achmea Unlimited), in support of our diversity goals.

We want to attract diverse talent and ensure equal access for women

When it comes to job vacancies, our policy is focused on attracting diverse talent and ensuring equal access for women. For internal and external recruitment, and promotion relating to management positions, we have made additional agreements with the directors and management. Examples include the composition of a selection committee and the recruitment agencies we work with. The gender diversity approach is an integral part of Management Development at Achmea. This means that attention is paid to diversity on the management team with respect to both recruitment and promotion.

Ability to work

At Achmea, a work-related disability does not have to regarded as a limitation. Part of our identity and strategy is about providing people with disabilities with every opportunity to be part of our working community. We view ‘normal’ as nothing more than the average of all differences. Achmea actively promotes the participation of employees with a work-related disability through the motto: ‘Regular where possible, special where necessary’ (‘Gewoon waar het kan, speciaal waar het moet’). We offer genuine jobs with proper salaries, and we make custom arrangements to ensure that employees have what they need to do their work effectively. Achmea has an increasing number of employees with a work-related disability who contribute fully to realising our ambitions and serving our customers. Achmea currently holds candidate status at PSO Netherlands.
