Supervisory Board
The Supervisory Board is responsible for overseeing the Executive Board's conduct and general business management. It plays an important role in Achmea's governance, in particular, by approving (or not) important business-related decisions. Below you find the biographies of the members.

Biographies

Jan van den Berg
Jan van den Berg is Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of Achmea B.V., Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V. and Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen N.V.
Mr van den Berg is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of MyTomorrows and a member of the Supervisory Board of Health Tech Global (Singapore). He also serves as an advisor to the Ministry of Healthcare Singapore and board member of the Oranjefonds.
Mr Berg has over 20 years’ management experience in the international insurance market. He worked at Coopers & Lybrand Corporate Finance, Nationale Nederlanden, AXA and Prudential Financial, where he held the post of Asia President until 2017.
Mr van den Berg is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of MyTomorrows and a member of the Supervisory Board of Health Tech Global (Singapore). He also serves as an advisor to the Ministry of Healthcare Singapore and board member of the Oranjefonds.
Mr Berg has over 20 years’ management experience in the international insurance market. He worked at Coopers & Lybrand Corporate Finance, Nationale Nederlanden, AXA and Prudential Financial, where he held the post of Asia President until 2017.

Else Bos
Else Bos is Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board of Achmea B.V., Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V. and Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen N.V. She is also a member of the Supervisory Boards of Achmea Zorgverzekeringen N.V. and its subsidiaries.
Else Bos is an experienced director in the financial sector. She has held leadership positions at prominent organisations, such as ABN AMRO, PGGM and De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB).
In addition, Else Bos is a member of the Supervisory Board of IFM Investors and Van Lanschot Kempen. She is also a non-executive director at Ortec Finance, an advisor to Focusing Capital on the Long Term (FCLTGlobal), and treasurer of the Dutch National Opera & Ballet Fund.

Lex Kloosterman
Lex Kloosterman is a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea B.V.. He is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V., Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen N.V. and, since 30 October 2020, a member of the Supervisory Board of N.V. Hagelunie.
After completing his law studies at Leiden University, he held various (international) positions at ABN AMRO Bank for 20 years in the US, Brazil, Singapore and in Europe. From 2006 to 2008, he was responsible for Asset Management and Private Clients on the Executive Committee of Fortis SA/NV, and from 2009 to 2018 he worked as Director at Rabobank International.
Mr Kloosterman is director at Stichting AGRI3 and Investor Director at Cerberus Global Investments B.V.

Miriam van Dongen
Miriam van Dongen is a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea B.V., Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen N.V. and Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V. She is also a member of the Supervisory Boards of Achmea Zorgverzekeringen N.V. and its subsidiaries.
Ms Van Dongen started her career at research firm IRIS (Rabobank/Robeco Group) and McKinsey & Company. She also held various positions at Delta Lloyd N.V., including as CFO of Delta Lloyd Belgium. From 2007 to 2009, she was CFO of Zilveren Kruis Achmea.
In addition, Ms Van Dongen is a member of the Supervisory Board of Optiver and Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board of Mollie B.V., as well as Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board of Kadaster. She is also Non-Executive Director of Spear Investments B.V. and since 2022 she has been Independent Chair Advisory Council at uMunthu Investment Company – Goodwell Investments.

Nienke Meijer
Nienke Meijer is a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea B.V., Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V. and Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen N.V.
Ms Meijer is co-founder and partner of Stichting De Buitenboordmotor. She served as chair of the board of Fontys Hogescholen and held several commercial and managerial roles at the publishers Wegener and VNU.
Ms Meijer is also a member of the Supervisory Boards of PostNL and Deloitte and chair of the board of Stichting De Volkskrant.

Antonio Cano
Antonio Cano is a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea B.V., Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V. and Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen N.V.
Antonio Cano has extensive managerial and supervisory experience in the international insurance market. For the past 35 years, he has held executive positions at AMEV, Fortis, Caifor, AG Insurance and Ageas, among others.

Hanno Mijer
Hanno Mijer is a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea B.V. and of the Supervisory Board of Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V. He is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Interamerican in Greece.
Hanno Mijer began his career in the insurance sector in 1988 at Aegon and subsequently worked as a partner at the international consultancy Watson Wyatt. Since 2007, he has held various executive positions within the Zurich Insurance Group, including CEO of Cover-More, CEO Corporate Life & Pensions and Global Head of Zurich Resilience Solutions.
