Executive Board

Willem van Duin (1960)

Chairman of the Executive Board

Willem van Duin joined Achmea’s Executive Board in January 2004, becoming vice-chairman in October 2008 and chairman in February 2009. Willem van Duin studied law at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and started his career at Achmea in 1987. Before being appointed to the Executive Board, he held various positions at holding company level and in the Health, Non-Life, Broker and Direct Distribution divisions.

In addition to overall responsibility for Achmea, his core responsibilities include Strategy (Corporate Strategy & CSR), the Executive Board Support Office, Corporate Communications, Internal Audit and Human Resources/Management Development Board of Directors.


Willem van Duin is a member of the Board of Eurapco, a strategic alliance of European mutual insurance companies. He is chairman of the Board of the Dutch Association of Insurers (Verbond van Verzekeraars), a member of the Board of the employers’ organisation VNO-NCW and chairman of the Board of the International Federation of Health Plans (IFHP). 

Bianca Tetteroo (1969)

Bianca Tetteroo

Bianca Tetteroo joined Achmea’s Executive Board in June 2015, becoming vice-chair in January 2020. She is a registeraccountant and in addition, she has completed several executive training programmes in corporate governance and leadership. Bianca Tetteroo started her career at accountancy firm Mazars in 1988 and moved to Fortis in 1996. In 2009, she joined Achmea, where she became finance director of pension provider Syntrus Achmea. Between 2012 and 2015 she was chairman of the Division Pension & Life. 

Bianca Tetteroo’s responsibilities on the Executive Board include the Division Zilveren Kruis, Achmea IT, the Division Achmea Retirement Services, the Division Achmea Investment Management and Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance.

Bianca Tetteroo is a member of the Royal Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants (NBA), a member of the Board of the Dutch Council for Cooperatives (NCR) and a member of the Supervisory Board of Netspar (Network for Studies on Pensions, Aging and Retirement). She is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Kunsthal Rotterdam.

Michel Lamie (1966)

Michel Lamie

Michel Lamie joined Achmea’s Executive Board in January 2017. He studied Economics and Accountancy at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and then worked at KPMG and as CFO of Royal and Sun Alliance. 

Michel Lamie worked at Achmea between 2002 and 2005, finally as the Group Director of Finance & Control. As of 2005, he was a member of the Board of De Goudse Verzekeringen, initially as vice-chairman and later as chairman (2009-2016).

Michel Lamie is the Chief Financial Officer and his portfolio of responsibilities covers Finance, Balance Sheet Management, Strategy (M&A and Programme Office) and Achmea Reinsurance.

Michel Lamie is a member of the Royal Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants (NBA). 

Henk Timmer (1961)

Henk Timmer

Henk Timmer joined Achmea’s Executive Board in March 2014. He studied Economics in Utrecht and followed the postgraduate IT-audit training in Tilburg. After various jobs in financial services, Henk Timmer moved to Achmea in 1997 and became responsible for Internal Audit in 2007. 

Henk Timmer is Chief Risk Officer and his portfolio of responsibilities consists of Governance, Risk & Compliance, Central Services, Legal Affairs, Supervisors and the Customer Centricity Programme.

Henk Timmer is a member of the Security Expert Group of Stichting Maatschappij en Veiligheid and also participates on behalf of Achmea in the CRO Forum, a group of risk managers in the European insurance industry.
 

Robert Otto (1967)

Robbert Otto

Robert Otto joined Achmea’s Executive Board in August 2015. He studied law at Leiden University and started his career in 1992 at ING. After two years as CEO of OHRA, Robert Otto became managing director of Delta Lloyd’s commercial division in 2010. In mid-2013, he moved to Achmea to become chairman of the Non-Life & Income Protection division. 

Robert Otto’s responsibilities on the Executive Board include the foreign operating companies (Eureko Sigorta, Interamerican, Union, Achmea Australia and Onlia Canada), the Division Pension & Life, Achmea Bank, InShared and Human Resources/Management Development

Robert Otto is a member of the Board of Thuiswinkel.org. He is also a member of the Board of the Association of Mutual Insurers and Insurance Cooperatives in Europe (AMICE) and the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF).
 

Lidwien Suur (1974)

Board Member

Lidwien Suur joined Achmea’s Executive Board in September 2019. She studied International Business at Maastricht University and started her career in 1998 at ING/Nationale-Nederlanden, where her positions included Director of Income Protection Insurance and Strategy Programme Director.

From early 2012, Lidwien Suur was managing director of Unigarant and ANWB Verzekeren and after 2014 was a member of the board of the ANWB, becoming CFO in 2016. 

Lidwien Suur’s responsibilities on the Executive Board include the Division Non-life, the Division Centraal Beheer, the Division Interpolis, Market Strategy & Innovation and Achmea Corporate Relations.

Lidwien Suur is a member of the Non-Life Insurance sector management board of the Dutch Association of Insurers, member of the Board of the Guarantee Fund Motorised Vehicles and member of the Board of the Dutch Motor Insurers’ Bureau. She is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Microcredit for Mothers, a foundation that provides micro-loans to extremely poor women in Asia.
